NEEDS AND WANTS!

As part of our Financial Literacy Inquiry,  we explored the difference between NEEDS and WANTS.

We found out that a need is something you CAN'T live without.  Things like a warm house,  family,  oxygen, sunlight,  water and food.

A want is something you'd LIKE to have but you CAN live without.   We'd all like some cool new toys and holidays overseas but we don't NEED them to survive.

We had to classify some pictures into NEEDS and WANTS.   It was very important that we were able to justify our decision of where we put each picture.

CONGRATULATIONS SAUL!

Take a look at our newest Candyland Press Pass holder ... Super Saul!

Well done Saul!  All your hard work has paid off. You are doing so well with your writing and we are all so proud of you!

MASS PRODUCTION!

We were super busy on Friday mass producing some of our Market Day products.  We had a production line going for producing the Pet Clouds.  Sephia unrolled the cotton wool, Isabel shaped the cotton wool into cloud shapes, Mrs Lunn glued the eyes on, Jayden put the cloud into a little bag, Ella put in the label and sealed the bag shut and Stevie and Jack counted how many we had made.  We each had our own special job to do and became very good at it.  Together we produced 32 Pet Clouds in less than one hour.  We were a well-oiled production machine!

Thanks for taking the photos Lucas

THE MICE MISSION!

Tip toe, tip toe, tip toe.  Tom the Cat was on the lose.

Beep, beep, beep.
"Quick to the meeting room,"
"Meow, meow," Tom the Cat meowed.
"What is my amazing mission?"
"Your mission is to get as many mice as you can because there is no food left in the supermarket,"
"Aye aye Captain Cat!"
"Right!  To the job Super-Cat!"

Super-Cat ran as fast as lightning to the biggest, tallest, terrific town in New Zealand.  He snooped around gates and doors.  Super-Cat looked up and down and to the left and to the right.  He completed the mission.  He found about 4 fat black mice hanging out.
"Yes!  I did the job"
ZZZZZZzzzzz went the walkie-talkie.
"What's next?" he asked.
"Now you mus get them all the way t the supermarket."
"Easy-bo-greasy!"

Super-Cat finally arrived at the supermarket.
Knock knock.
"Here's some food for the supermarket,"
But guess what?  They just threw the mice back at him!

SUBTRACTION!

Over the next few weeks, we will be learning all about Subtraction.  If you would like to help at home, please give us a number and ask us to count backwards from that number.

We are also learning to count backwards in 10s and 5s from 100, and in 2s from 20 (then bigger numbers).

Please listen carefully to us when we count backwards in 10s as a lot of us say...
"... 40. 30, 12, 11, 10..."

Please get us to make sure we say thirTY and hopefully we will remember to say 20 and 10 after that;-)

CUTE!

Here is a super smiley photo of Ella at reading today!

MAKING A VENN DIAGRAM!

Our search to find the perfect products too sell at Market Day continues.  Today we completed a venn diagram comparing two different products.  We worked so well together and Mrs Lunn said it was great to see us working together.

SIMILES WORKSHOP!

On Monday, some of the children attended Mrs Lunn's workshops on Similes.  We had to match the first part of a simile up with the second part.  Mrs Lunn challenged us to use one of these similes in our writing.  We succeeded!  We write amazing stories!

LEARNING ABOUT BREAD!

Mrs Lunn's boy Hamish, and two of his friends Isaac and Logan came to our class on Friday.  They had written a play about Bread and came to perform it for us.  It included a few facts about bread too that we found interesting.  Thanks for coming to share your play with us.

IS IT A GOOD PRODUCT TO SELL AT MARKET DAY?

Each group had to fill out an organiser to decide if the product is a good one to sell at Market Day.  Our teachers we extremely impressed that each group were able to fill out the organiser all by themselves!  We had to think if the product fulfilled the criteria as well as thinking of its strengths and weaknesses too.

FUN AT READING!

The Seals reading group have been silent reading for information.  Mrs Lunn wrote some questions on the whiteboard for us to answer.  We had to silent read the journal article and then we talked with the rest of our group to figure out what the answer could be.  We really enjoyed this lesson and we especially liked getting to write our answers on the whiteboard!
Lots of fun!

LEVELED UP!

CONGRATULATIONS to Jayden, Sukhdeep, TK, Ethan, Alex and Micah on all moving up a strategy stage in Maths!

MARKET DAY PROTOTYPES!

On Friday, we made some of our Prototypes for what we want to sell at Market Day.  Some groups needed more help from the teachers than others.  After finishing all the prototypes we need to conduct a survey to find out if anyone would actually want to buy our products.  There is no point making them if no one wants to buy them!
