MARKET DAY!

On Tuesday Piako 2 held their Market Day.  We invited Piako 1 to our come and buy from our stalls.  We sold things like stress-balls, pet mice, pet clouds, the floating ball game, pet rocks and pencils and pencil holders.

We raised an astonishing amount of money...

$468.70!

We are donating the money to Ronald McDonald House Charities NZ.

Thanks to everyone who helped us with our Market Day.

ADVERTISING!

Miss Crowther taught Piako 2 all about Social Responsibility today.  That's when individual people of business do something good to help others.  It got us WONDERING ... what could we do to help others.  We came up with a few suggestions but we decided we would go home and have a think and a talk with our families about we should do with the Market Day profit.

Please can you help us at home try and decide what good cause we could help.

MARKET DAY MADNESS!

Today Mrs Lunn set up a production line for us to make the pet rocks and the stress balls.  We took turns at who was manufacturing the products so it didn't interfere with our learning.  Cameron decided that making stress balls was a great way to learn patience ;-)

ECONOMIC ROLES!

Today we were talking about the roles people play in the economy.  We learnt about producers,  retailers and consumers.   We found out that producers MAKE the products,  retailers SELL the products and consumers BUY the products.

When we make our Market Day products,  we are producers.  When we sell our products we will be retailers and when we buy products at Market Day we will be consumers.   We think it's pretty cool we get experience the different types of economic roles.

MASS PRODUCTION!

We were super busy on Friday mass producing some of our Market Day products.  We had a production line going for producing the Pet Clouds.  Sephia unrolled the cotton wool, Isabel shaped the cotton wool into cloud shapes, Mrs Lunn glued the eyes on, Jayden put the cloud into a little bag, Ella put in the label and sealed the bag shut and Stevie and Jack counted how many we had made.  We each had our own special job to do and became very good at it.  Together we produced 32 Pet Clouds in less than one hour.  We were a well-oiled production machine!

Thanks for taking the photos Lucas

MAKING A VENN DIAGRAM!

Our search to find the perfect products too sell at Market Day continues.  Today we completed a venn diagram comparing two different products.  We worked so well together and Mrs Lunn said it was great to see us working together.

IS IT A GOOD PRODUCT TO SELL AT MARKET DAY?

Each group had to fill out an organiser to decide if the product is a good one to sell at Market Day.  Our teachers we extremely impressed that each group were able to fill out the organiser all by themselves!  We had to think if the product fulfilled the criteria as well as thinking of its strengths and weaknesses too.

MARKET DAY PROTOTYPES!

On Friday, we made some of our Prototypes for what we want to sell at Market Day.  Some groups needed more help from the teachers than others.  After finishing all the prototypes we need to conduct a survey to find out if anyone would actually want to buy our products.  There is no point making them if no one wants to buy them!

MARKET DAY!

Yesterday some girls from Pounamu Atawhai came and invited us to hold our own Market Day like what they do!

We we really excited but we have LOTS to decide.

We wrote down all our Wonderings...

When should we have our Market Day?
Where should we hold it?
What shall we sell?
How will we make the things?
How much will we sell them for?

Our teachers will help us answer these questions over the next few weeks!

We will keep you posted!
