MACHINES ALIVE!

Today we got to choose which activity we wanted to do.
Those kids that stayed in the Rainbow Room, did an activity called Machines Alive!

We listened to some music and pretended to be robots.  We had to do some actions.

Then Mrs Lunn gave us some pictures of toys.  We chose which picture we wanted to do and we made up some actions for how we thought it would move.

Baeley, Bailey and Zia were a rocking horse

Cameron, Kalas, Dylan and Saul were a racing car

Sam, Jack, Tyler and Issac were a train

Jayden, George, Riley and Alex were a toy boat

Ethan, Leah and Naomi were a rocking horse

To be successful, we had to think creatively.  We talked about our ideas and we gave them a go and changed them if we needed to.

We did it!

Well done guys!

THINKING CREATIVELY!

On Friday we had Genius Hour.  Our teachers challenged us to think creatively but... there was a catch!

We had to choose whether we wanted to think creatively by ourselves (Self-Manager) OR think creatively when working with others.  This would involve being an Effective Communicator as we worked towards a common goal.

Here are a few photos we took on Mrs Lunn's phone of us thinking creatively...
Phoebe, Isabel and Paige working together to put on a wedding

Aaliyah being a self-manager when drawing her masterpieces

The boys being good self-managers when creating vehicles out of Mobilo

Some fantastic and creative works of art by Julia, Jessica and Stevie

Naomi being a very competent self-manager - check out her creative wind-chime!

Riley, Lucas and Sukhdeep working together to build a race track!

GENIUS HOUR!

Oliva and Timothy the Bear drew a picture using pastels.  She drew a butterfly first and then she looked for a green pastel and added lots of extra details.
Today in Genius Hour we practised being CREATIVE!
We built amazing towers, jet skis and houses and race tracks.  We drew colourful pictures.  We made cool things with mobilo.
When we were being Creative we had to think about what were going to do.  We had to ask ourselves how we were going to make it better - we had to REFLECT!

When were talking to our friends about what they were doing we had to ask...

"Can you tell me about what you are making."

This is an open-ended question.  Asking open-ended questions gets us a lot more detail!
Before
After reflection and improvements

Aaliyah and Stevie made a bedroom for Dawson and he even gets a slide!

Jermaine made a ramp for a car all by himself

Naomi made a city complete with a cylinder on top of the tallest tower

GENIUS HOUR EDITION TWO!

We had about 20 kids choose to take part in Genius Hour this week.   We had kids learning about cheetahs,  dogs,  artic foxes as well as kids designing and building race tracks with portals (as every good race track should have) and cars that transform into helicopters.  Jermaine is a genius at riding his skateboard so he designed and made a skateboard and some ramps from Mobilo.  He gave us a demonstration of how the skateboard could do flips off the ramps. Very cool, Jermaine!

NGA MATAPONO!

Over the last few weeks, you would have seen a few posts about our learning surrounding Nga Matapono.  These are our Riverdale School beliefs.  To be a successful inquiring learner, we believe we must be Creative, Competent, Effective Communicators, and Self Managers.  Here is a video celebrating all that we have learnt over the last few weeks.  Enjoy!

COMPETENT KIDS!

We have been learning about the Riverdale School beliefs.  They are called Nga Matapono.  We believe we need to be Self Managers,  Competent,  Creative and Effective Communicators in order to become successful inquirying learners.
Yesterday we practised being Competent.   Some kids are good at dressing up and putting on a show,  some are amazing tower builders, some kids are artists and Dawson thinks he is a Competent Cowboy!
