FAMILY OF FACTS!

In one of our workshops we have been learning that if we know one multiplication fact, we actually know three more facts!

For example:

If we know ... 3 x 2 = 6

Then we know  ...

2 x 3 = 6
and
6 divided by 3 is 2
and
6 divided by 2 is 3!

What a handy thing to know!

DOUBLES, DOUBLES, MULTIPLICATION WHIZZES!

What a huge difference knowing our 'Doubles' makes.  We are learning all about Multiplication and Division at the moment.  The children who know their 'Doubles' (ie 1+1, 2+2 etc) effectively know their two times table.

They can not only solve mulitplication equations involing the 2 times tables but they can easily divide a number by two as well.

Here are a couple of 'Doubles' songs you might like to let us practise at home...

WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE!

Gosh what a lot of rain we have had in Palmerston North over the last few days!

Here are a few photos of our community looking a bit wet and soggy.  I hope you are all safe and dry at home.  I know a few of you will have flooded streets.  Take care!

FAIR SHARE!

Macy and Julia were practising division on the whiteboards.

Some serious thinking is going on here!
We have some pretty flash kids in our room!  Here are a couple of photos of them hard at work.
 Well done guys!

MAX WITH A MOUSTACHE!

Oh Max!  You silly sausage.
Thanks for giving us all a laugh today!

FRACTIONS, FRACTIONS!

We are so busy at Maths time at the moment. We have been learning about Multiplication and we started Division today.  In our Knowledge Workshops, we have been learning about FRACTIONS!  Here are a few pictures of what we got up to today...

Here's Sam cutting a picture from a magazine in HALF!

Here's Alex writing the symbol (1/2) for HALF!

Here are some kids playing FRACTIONS BINGO!  They have to match the pizza piece to the fraction symbol.

Here's Macy and Matty challenging each other to a game of FRACTION FLASH.  They are shown a fraction and they have to be the first person to call out the name of the fraction.  (Macy won today by the way).

CONSTABLE AJ COMES TO VISIT!

Today Constable AJ came to visit all the kids in Piako 2, to talk to us about keeping ourselves safe.

He told us all about the difference between secrets (things that make you feel yuk) and surprises (things that are good and make people feel happy).  He also talked about good touches (like hugs and kisses goodnight), bad touches (kicking and biting etc) and confusing touches (ones that make us feel confused or unsafe).

He told us what to do if we feel unsure or unsafe about a situation.  We did a few role plays so that we could practise what to do.  We talked a lot about who we could ask for help if we needed it.  Mrs Lunn and Constable AJ were very proud of us because we know what is right and what is wrong!

Constable AJ had us hanging on every word

Here we are practising saying "NO! Stop it I don't like it!"

Constable AJ told us to remember PANTS.  Here's what it means...

NOTE FROM MRS LUNN:

Dear Parents,
This was a very positive and empowering session for your children.  Constable AJ reassured the children that they might not ever need to use what they learnt today, but that it was good to know what to do just in case, they or a friend needed help.  You might like to talk with your child about what AJ talked to them about and reassure them that you as a family and the teachers at school will ALWAYS help them if and when they need us.

Thanks for your on-going support

Jo
